Did you know that the Balkans is home to some of the oldest cities in the world?
Many have heard the term “Balkans” tossed about but likely don’t know a whole lot about the region. The saga of the Balkans is profound yet incredibly complicated. Bordered by both the Balkan Mountains of southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea, this region holds a strong place in the history of Western civilization and is also a major crossroads of Eastern civilization as well.
The Balkans have been the stomping grounds of both Byzantine emperors and Ottoman sultans. And both Christianity and Islam call this place home. Sadly, it was this clash of culture and religion that would lead to much of the struggles in the history of the Balkans.
Similar fault lines of conflict occurred in more recent years, especially when the Balkans erupted in bloodshed in the 1990s. The Balkans had just thrown off the fetters of decades of communism to embrace an uncertain future, only to be haunted by terrible demons from its past.
This book takes a look at both the ancient past of this important part of the world, as well as more recent events.

Was the first empire really started by an abandoned orphan who rose to greatness?
Was there an empire older and more important than mighty Egypt? There were a few, but the Akkadian Empire, born out of the cradle of civilization, is thought to be the first. And it was a game-changer. Its creation inspired conquerors and other empire-builders throughout history and spawned two world powers. Its epics, legends, and beliefs influence religions and cultures even today—and make for some darn good reading.
Known mostly through clay tablets and stelae, the truth about the Akkadian Empire has intrigued and at times eluded scholars and historians. Victory reliefs made grandiose claims, and propaganda was rampant. Legendary poems countered cautionary tales about arrogance and oppression. We will discuss the men who ruled the empire and the legends that define what we know about them.

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Anglo-Saxons, then keep reading...
Free History BONUS Inside!
There was a time before England was united. This was a time before William the Bastard decided to prove to his contemporaries that his bastard moniker would be erased with a swift conquest of the biggest island northwest of Europe. A time before the Battle of Hastings and the year 1066. A time when many petty kingdoms ruled, conquered, and were liberated, time and time again, by a specific people group. A people group that is, in fact, a blend of many and that authors of later dates would collectively call the Anglo-Saxons.
With this book, we want to let our readers know how vibrant and lively (as well as deadly) life in Britain was during the perhaps wrongly-titled “Dark Ages.” With the end of the Roman Empire, the local Britons were left to their devices, and it would be several people groups from a peninsula in Central Europe that would come to dominate the island, making sure their presence was known through a series of kingdoms, battles, clashes, victories, and defeats.
But the Anglo-Saxons have a lot more to offer us history buffs. We can learn about their day-to-day life: how they dressed, what they ate and drank, how they waged war or had fun, how they buried their dead, and how they worshiped their gods. We can also learn about their art, their amazing metal and clay pieces, stunning bits of tapestries, and dozens of well-illuminated manuscripts. And if we lack any information on what they thought of the world around them, we can be happy that they were willing to tell us that themselves, all through hundreds of written texts of both religious and secular nature.
The Anglo-Saxons were, indeed, an odd group of people to take control of Britain. But they didn’t do it all at once, and just like any other people in history, they had a period of adjustment, growth, reconstruction, and eventual rise to prominence.
In Anglo-Saxons: A Captivating Guide to the People Who Inhabited Great Britain from the Early Middle Ages to the Norman Conquest of England, you will discover topics such as
- Anglo-Saxons Arrive
- Early Anglo-Saxons: Origins and Pre-Settlement History
- The Culture of Anglo-Saxons: Religion, Customs, Social Hierarchy, Early Christianity
- Everyday Life of Anglo-Saxon England: Jobs and Division of Labor, Food and Drink, Clothes, Architecture, Travel, Wars, Gender and Age Norms, Art, Written Works
- Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms
- Anglo-Saxon Legacy

Warrior. Ruler. Patron of the arts and language. Terrorist. Brutal oppressor. Protector of the good. Guardian of Christendom. Father of Europe. There are so many different ways in which Charlemagne can be described, and yet the man himself is often seen as an enigma. Depending on the viewpoint of history, he could have been either a monster or a guardian angel. Yet, as with most men, the truth lies somewhere in between. The truth is that he was human.
Charlemagne, crowned emperor of Rome and king of the Franks and Lombards, was the third ruler of the Carolingian Dynasty. He is also known as Charles the Great, and greatness certainly is a fitting word to describe his illustrious rule of 47 years. He added huge tracts of land to the Frankish kingdom, reformed everything from administration to currency to language, and changed the dynamics between the church and state forever—a defining influence on the entirety of Europe during the Middle Ages.

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Jews, then keep reading...
Free History BONUS Inside!
The Jewish people are one of the oldest living people groups on the planet. The Jews lived alongside the ancient Egyptians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, and Sumerians—all of whom have since disappeared from the pages of history. Yet the Jews still remain. Despite all of the odds, Jewish culture, language, laws, and religion have remained intact over the course of thousands of years.
Even after being kicked out of their homeland and scattered all over the globe, the Jews were able to hold their customs close to their heart. While in exile, they developed special rules to live by through rabbinical works, such as the Talmud, which gave them a moral compass by which to live, no matter where they might end up. This was a great source of comfort for the Jewish people even while having to live in less than encouraging environments. Their traditions kept them strong.
Even from the worst ghettoes in Europe, great minds, such as Moses Mendelssohn, came forth and illuminated the world with their ideas. This light shined so brightly that soon the full emancipation of Jews became the norm in the civilized world. But then, in the middle of the 20th century, disaster struck when the Nazis came to power in Germany.
This horrific regime brought death and destruction upon the Jewish people on a scale that the world had never seen before. Yet despite the horrors of the Holocaust, the Jews survived. Not only did they survive, but their ancient homeland of Israel was also soon revived and reborn. When Israel became a state in 1948, the great dream of having a Jewish safe haven became a reality.
This is the history of the Jews.
