Penelope Douglas is a writer living in Las Vegas. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, she is the oldest of five children. Penelope attended the University of Northern Iowa, earning a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, because her father told her to "just get the damn degree!" She then earned a Masters of Science in Education at Loyola University in New Orleans, because she HATED public administration. One night, she got tipsy and told the bouncer at the bar where she worked that his son was hot, and three years later she was married. To the son, not the bouncer. They have spawn, but just one. A daughter named Aydan. Penelope loves sweets, The Originals, and she shops at Target almost daily.

God! I knew from the start I'd love this book. I had no idea I'd enjoy it this much. I couldn't put it down.
Fyi, I don't read just to read or pass the time. I read to feel and live the story. I don't diagonally read this type of books. I can read a passage 10 times or more to feel everything to the fullest. All this to say that even though I savour a book, which hints me taking me time, I actually devoured it.
I always love this dynamic between the MC: hate to hide the love. It runs deep. Hurt, anger, frustration, misunderstanding, low self-esteem hidden behind a prideful arrogant mask of indifference but mainly love.
This story has a lot of what I love.
Yes, romance novels can be cliché : the MC have a hard time before everything works out fine.
Yes, I love happy endings. I'm a Jane Austen fan afterall. (Ugh, ''fan'' i don't really Luke that word. Admirer might be better). Anyway... I know a sad ending can sometimes work better (eg: Withering Heights) because it'd be more overwhelming. Nevertheless, the marshmallow side of my heart - the bigger part - wants a happy ending.
Besides, these books are about the journey not the destination. Twists are the best part that's why you might know the ending and still enjoy the story. And this one has been an emotional one for me. Despite the fact I didn't ''feel'' like the bullying was that awful (I read worse), I read this book with a lump in my throat and a knot the size of Texas in my stomach. My heart clenched many times. I'm not even ashamed to confess that tears welled in my eyes a few times.
I usually rush to another book. Yet, this time I couldn't. I had to digest this story first. I still felt it. It ruined me for other stories for a short while; which is a sign that this book has spoken to my heart and is a good book/story (my opinion).
Sure, there are a few editing oversights but it didn't bother me and I'm an effing pain in the ***.
The only thing that matters is that:
I felt. I lived the story. I wanted more.
The purpose of a good book.

Pour une fois, je n'ai pas envie de disséquer les caractères, leur relation, l'histoire, ... Je veux juste dire "INCROYABLE!".

OK, cela parle d'adolescents, de highschool, de harceleur, bref vous me direz, pas de quoi faire un Prix Nobel ou un Pullitzer. Et comment me direz-vous une MILF comme moi peut-elle apprécier ce genre de niaiseries? Eh bien, je m'en fiche de ce que les autres pensent, ce livre est génial!
J'étais tellement prise dans l'histoire que je suis restée sur le quai de la gare bien qu'à destination, rivée à mon bouquin. Les enfants pouvaient mourir de faim (enfin, c'est relatif car ils ont accès au frigo), la lessive déborder, le chien pouvait mâcher toutes les chaussures ... je devais savoir comment la scène de la course de voiture se terminait!
Bref, j'ai adoré le livre, la façon dont l'héroine se défend enfin, ses réparties, sa passion des voitures... Jared est "eye candy" ce qui ne gâche rien et mystérieux et Madoc est hilarant dans les scènes qu'il n'hésite pas à provoquer pour arriver à ses fins!
Vous adorerez ou vous détesterez (trop niais) mais moi, je suis devenue fan et j'attends avec impatience le deuxième livre!

Des personnages forts en caractère; tant l'héroïne Tate(même si de prime abord, elle parait effrayée) que le héros Jared.

Les débuts sont difficiles, on plonge en plein coeur de l'enfer personnel de Tate et de son bourreau Jared qui n'est autre que son voisin et ex meilleur ami.

C'est après une ultime humiliation que Tate quitte son lycée, sa ville et son pays pour passer une année en France avant de revenir faire sa dernière année de lycée.

Alors qu'avant Tate se laissait mettre à mal, elle a pris du poil de la bête et tient tête à Jared autant que faire ce peut et cela fait des étincelles!

Et Jared, quel héros! On a envie de le détester et pas qu'un peu tellement il apparaît ignoble. Et pourtant on s'attache à lui, on se demande comment il va faire pour devenir un héros comme on en a l'habitude. Et il faut attendre un moment avant que ça arrive et encore, on doute etc....

Certains passages sont intenses dont notamment celui du monologue! De la pure émotion!

Je ne saurais que trop vous conseillez de le lire tellement il est bien.

Its was an ok read. A bit too much needless swearing for my liking and a lot of the scenes and characters were overly hyperbolic. The steamy scenes were well done. The who done it culprit at the end was obvious.

wow... i cant even put the right words! It was nothing like I would have imagined it to be! it was astounding! Their relationship was so intense and powerful. I felt overwhelmed by so much hatred and at the same time by so much love !
Glad I had the chance to read this story!
I highly recommend it !!

Two spoiler alerts:
A) This is a novel about 2 high school kids.
B) Ms Douglas needs a new proof reader (or proof reading system)

So yes, this is an admittedly enjoyable and well written (excusing all the errors) romance about 2 HIGH SCHOOL kids. (Not le to Amazon / author) please could this be highlighted a little more clearly/strongly. I bought the £6 Kindle version and did not want to waste the money so finished the book. It was a good (romance) book, but I kept on thinking to myself I am a near 50-year-old woman reading about high school kids. 😬. It did not feel right. More like I had loaned one of my teen daughters novels - and I will be recommending this book to her.
In short: I recommend this book to young adult romance fans!

This has been an emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish. When I first started reading this book I truly hated the character of Jared and his cronies for their treatment of Tate. As the story progressed you didn’t know who to trust even to the end. This book had my heart racing reading about Tate and her feelings of not knowing why Jared was being the way he was with her. All the characters were very believable and they really drew me into the story and I must admit I actually cried, and tears are in my eyes now writing this, when I recall Tate standing and giving her monologue. This is a very emotional book but still a romance about two young people growing up as friends and circumstances happen and things go very wrong. I highly recommend this book and I must congratulate this very talented author on an exceptionally thought provoking story which will stay in my head for some time. If I could give more than five stars I truly would.

This is another book I’ve had on my TBR for soooo long and that has been recommended so much! I can see why.. I loved it!

It was the perfect bully romance story! The heroine Tate was such a good character, she grew so much during the book from being timid and taking the bullying to standing up for herself and knowing her worth. And Jared was also super interesting! You could sense throughout the book that there was something deeper going on in regards to his feelings for Tatum and why he treated her how he did. I loved the suspense of finding out what was making him behave that way.

This was a super well written book with really good character arc and I highly recommend it! It’s the third book I’ve read by Penelope and none of them have disappointed so far! She certainly knows how to write amazing books ❤️

I bought and read this book over 4 years ago . Saw it advertised this week on my kindle it reminded me I had read it. But there wasn't a review from me . So l have just re read it . It is a really good story about high school romance betrayal misunderstandings and love . The only down side for me was it was only one point of view Tates . I don't like not knowing what is going on with in the other main characters mind Jared .

4 stars, this book was amazing. I loved the chemistry between Tate and Jarod. My only issue with this book was Tates so called best friend. Why Tate forgave her when she dated Tate is beyond me! What best friend would do that after witnessing all the bullying that Tate had endured?? I also slightly struggled with how quickly Jarod turned into a good guy. It was a very quick turn around with no real explanation. However it was still what it said on the tin....a good bully romance! There was chemistry between characters and a great storyline. I would read more from this author and can't wait to read the next book in the series.
