There was a great deal in the book which had much going for it in the way it handled childhood, parental mega dysfunction and effects and relationship issues.
There was too much included which was a distraction and the plot did not need any of it - the story could well have moved on much better leaving whole chunks out.
Key bits were missing - a phone call about problems to the boss when in another country was just dropped.
There was some marked stereotyping which I found not only very annoying, it allowed a sub-plot to continue in a totally ludicrous and implausible manner. ie - how someone failed to put two and two together to work out the timings of receiving charity donations and who was around at that immediate time.
I also actually enjoyed the fact that it wasn't one long bonk-fest through the book - the passion interludes were more realistic, both in timing and content and truer to relationships.
I would not describe this as any kind of fairy tale at all.
But the main problem is what on earth happened to the ending? It was rubbish and has left a cliff hanger for at least one of the sub characters at least.
