Penelope Ward est de retour pour une romance contemporaine très charmante où nos héros devront laisser leur à priori de côté et tirer un trait sur les erreurs du passé.

Aspyn Dumont est notre héroïne et nous allons tomber sous son charme. Elle travaille dans la maison de retraite Horizons en tant qu'animatrice et elle proposera de belles activités aux pensionnaires. Quand Nancy sa chef va lui demander de chaperonner un des pensionnaires lors des visites de son petit fils, elle ne s attendait pas à retomber sur celui qu'elle a détesté au lycée. Elle aura du mal à lui faire confiance car il avait trahi sa meilleure amie. Il reste cet homme arrogant mais charmant mais elle se méfiera de lui. J'ai adoré voir leurs interventions car on va bien s amuser avec eux. Entre les moments où ils perdront de vue Louie, ce grand père adorable qui donnera de belles leçons de vie et d amour, les sorties inattendues et les moments de flottements, on ne va pas s ennuyer un seul instant. Elle s occupe de sa nièce Kiki et cette dernière aura aussi son rôle à jouer. Elle est très mâture pour son âge et ses questions ou remarques sont toujours affûtées. Elle ne se laissera pas berner par ces adultes qui se cherchent mais qui seront aux petits soins pour elle. Aspyn ne semble pas prête à laisser une seconde chance à notre héros et on la comprend car elle a des circonstances atténuantes. Son amie Jasmine ne sera pas d'une grande aide car son avis sera plus que tranché. En effet, Troy l'a trahie et même si elle semble avoir tourné la page, elle ne lui a pas totalement pardonné. J'ai eu le sentiment qu'elle n agissait pas forcément par amitié mais cela est une autre histoire. Notre héroïne devra donc être la seule juge quand il s'agira de faire confiance à notre héros

Troy Serrano est un personnage que j'ai adoré découvrir. A 18 ans, il a eu un comportement assez stupide mais cela a déterminé sa relation avec Aspyn. Il est très charmant et j'ai adoré son sens de l'humour. Ses jeux de mots et ce qui semble être de la nonchalance ne l'aideront pas à redorer son image. Il a changé et il aimerait que notre héroïne s'en rende compte. Il va devoir ramer mais il pourra compter sur son grand père pour les aider à atteindre cet objectif. C'est avec Kiki qu'on verra qu'il est un homme bien car il saura s'adresser à elle de manière bienveillante et la comprendre sur certains moments difficiles de sa vie. Elle pourrait être une alliée indéniable dans sa reconquête et on va adorer leur scène. Il va devoir s'ouvrir sur de nombreux sujets s'il espère repartir sur de bonnes bases. Cependant son temps à Meadow Brook est compté et on se demande ce qui se passera quand il devra retourner à Seattle où il semble mener une vie épanouissante ! Notre héroïne risque bien de bousculer ses à priori et remettre en cause la profondeur de ses sentiments mais combien de temps va-t-il rester à ses côtés?

Bref Penelope Ward nous offre une romance enemies to lovers très réussie. Les personnages seront attachants et ils sauront nous faire vibrer au fil des pages. J'ai passé un très bon moment en leur compagnie et cette comédie saura nous offrir tout ce qu'on aime dans une romance

The Assignment was an impulse purchase because I really liked the cover! We haven’t read many of Penelope’s novels although we do love the books she’s co-written with Vi Keeland so I thought I’d give this one a bash.

Old high school enemies meet again when Aspyn is tasked with chaperoning one of her care home residents and his grandson - who can’t be trusted to stick to care home rules. Turns out said grandson is Aspyn’s high school enemy number one Troy Serrano.

As we get to know the characters their past unfolds and they both learn things they didn’t know about the other. Their high school feud becomes trivial in the light of their new friendship. I did think Aspyn was too concerned about how her friend would feel about her new relationship. I get that it was with an ex but initially Troy and Aspyn were only friends and I felt like there was a bigger deal of it than needed.

This had Lauren Blakely/Kendall Ryan vibes and I feel like there’s a book in my head with a pretty similar set up - a grandparent in a nursing home but I can’t quite grasp the name of it! The grandparent element certainly adds a degree of sweetness to the story both in their own characters and how the other characters look out for them.

Another sweet read from our sweet Penelope. I loved every second of reading her new book

Troy and Aspyn have known each other since high school but haven’t seen each other for 10 years. She wasn’t happy at all when she found out she will have to accompany Mr Serrano and his grandson. As the grandson - aka Troy - was the one who cheated on her best friend so he was her enemy.
But for how long?

As they get to know each other more, soon Troy realises he needs her forgiveness more than anything. Even though it’s not an excuse, he did have his reasons why he was acting like the way he was in high school. He tries to tell Aspyn about his past but still it’s not enough to convince her that he changed. She thinks he can’t be trustedz
Although she tries to deny her feelings for as long as she can, she gives in and start having a physical relationship with him.

Soon we find out there is more to their past than we thought. Your jaw will definitely drop.

Even though the story is about Troy and Aspyn, you will definitely “fall in love” with Nonno and Kiki. I mean how fun is it to be around them?

It’s a fun, enemies-to-lovers romantic story and you won’t regret to dive in as soon as you get your hands on the book.
And the chemistry between these two lovely people? I mean , it can’t get any hotter !

Get your hankies ready for this beautifully delightful, easy reading book, about emotions, forgiveness and trust. The past can bring you in contact with the present but unless you forgive, you can’t forget and therefore cannot move on !!
Aspyn works in a care home for the elderly, as a director of entertainment and outings. Troy’s grandfather is a resident in said care, who needs to be chaperoned, as Troy finds it difficult to obey the rules of the home,, whilst his nonno is in his care. The characters are so appealing. Troy so handsome, and Aspyn a beautiful curvy individual . However at high school they were arch enemies. Troy for cheating on Aspyn’s best friend Jasmine, and Aspyn for keying Troy’s car. Revenge for both at the time is for most. 10 years later, Troy may have changed, but trust is an issue. As ever written , very well, flows so well. The descriptions are so clear you can smell the perfumes, hear the chatter and feel the overpowering emotions of the two main characters. Kiki is a delightful addition and all characters have a story. As ever with this author, once started very difficult to put down . A void occurs when finished. To good to over look.

Aspyn's a wonderful employee at the retirement center. She loves the people she cares for, she's the co-guardian of her precocious niece, and she's mostly content with her life. Then one of her favorite patient's grandsons invades their lives and suddenly things are all upside down. You see, Troy is her arch enemy from high school. He betrayed her high school bestie, Aspyn reacted less than positively, and since then they have had not so happy thoughts of each other. Now she's assigned to "chaperone" him as he takes his grandpa out of the home on their adventures. Will she discover Troy isn't really the bad guy she's always seen him as? Has he truly changed? Or will he revert back to his true self when the going gets tough?

Troy wasn't the king of good behavior once upon a time. Now his past is staring him in the face, and instead of making him want to lash out, Aspyn's giving him very different feelings. Something akin to the "l" word, maybe like, definite sparks, and an arrangement that has the power to either bring them together in happiness or break them both.

The author never fails to throw a wrench into her couples' happiness. I knew something was going to come along and interrupt Aspyn and Troy's journey, and boy did it. But I loved it, loved them, even as they were trying to get on the same page and hurting all the while. The Assignment is the kind of romance I love best - light-hearted in parts, heavily emotional in a few spots, with oh so fiery chemistry, witty, snarky dialogue, and fun and adorable supporting cast members in Troy's grandpa Louie and Aspyn's niece Kiki.

Enemies to lovers story. Aspyn and Troy were oil and water in high school because he cheated on her best friend. She got her revenge on him though! 10 years later they’re still holding a grudge and she is assigned to accompany him and Nonno whenever they leave the senior housing.

Explosive? Most definitely. Something brewing? An undercurrent of attraction? Oh yeah! And Nonno is on top of it. The man who loves his wife far beyond her death is a master manipulator and forever romantic.

Troy is troubled and has not got his act together but she’s breaking through all his barriers. His past may just be their end.

Aspyn has a lot on her place and a few secrets of her own. She’s afraid to fall for him but knows she loves with her while being and treading cautiously is a must.

Is there a HEA? Silly question. Nonno makes sure of it. Fate? Nonno? Who knows!

Loved the narrators for this story.

Manchmal fand ich die Dialoge etwas stelzernd, aber sie haben Spaß gemacht zu lesen. Es war gute Unterhaltung, auch wenn es nichts Besonderes war. Der Verlauf war vorprogrammiert. Aber ich hab einen schönen Tag damit verbracht.

I've read other books by this author, both solo and collab, which I've enjoyed way more. I'm not even sure if I can explain why. Just something didn't gel with me. The characters, the back story? It felt very paint by numbers. A set story development based on one misdead years ago. There was nothing original or compelling about it.
