It started with my bladder.
I didn't mean to witness a shady deal in the restroom hallway.
I didn't think twice when I called the cops.
And I certainly didn't know who the club belonged to.
Asher Black.
Former mafia hitman.
Billionaire CEO.
New York's most eligible bachelor.
When he shows up at my college, looking for the girl who called the cops on his business, I know I'm as good as dead.
What I don't expect is his offer.
He'll pay my tuition and set me up with a cushy job after I graduate.
All I have to do is... be his fake fiancée.
Asher Black is a 90,000-word standalone novel in The Five Syndicates mafia romance series.

There is huge talk about the mafia, and they play such a minor role in the book. Like...the protagonist who is hiring people to kill them...is simply a corporate guy who wants to be CEO. Just seems like a huge reach.
Another thing was that there was a bit too much descriptions. Even simple things were being explained which I feel didn't need to be.
Third...literally every single blonde woman in the book was the stereotypical gold digger who looks down their nose at the main heroine. The rich friend she makes is the exact opposite and is of course...brunette. This stereotype of feminine and blonde women being antagonists is heavily overused. Felt a hit like reading a teen wattpad story at times.
Next...for a woman who is supposed to be one of the smartest and is attending the best school in the country...it doesn't really seem like it. Her education is pushed to the background, and she comes off childish sometimes in the way she talks to people. Some things had me cringing at times.
And finally...all that build up, and the sex was fast and over with pretty quickly. It seemed very distant, like a hook up, rather than sex with someone you're supposed to love.
...
I know I've made a lot of complaints haha. The story lacks in some areas, again reminding me of a wattpad story. But...
Overall it was still a decent and fast read. I did enjoy it.

I really enjoyed the writing style, which was humorous and easy to read, certainly not what I was expecting. I loved the storyline and the character of Lucy and her friend Aimee, Asher was such a deep character and wasn't what I expected.
I will definitely be interested in reading more of this author's work.

This is a new author to me and also the debut book for Parker S. Huntington for this series.
If you like bossy CEO's, former hitman for the Mob. This is for you.
Asher and Lucy cross paths, to which they come to an arrangement of a fake engagement which would benefit them both.
Quite the page turner. Some predictable parts.
Would have liked a pov from Asher. But otherwise enjoyable.
Will they fall for one another?
Will they walk away and be satisfied with their deal?

Though this was very mafia light, with a series name like the five syndicates I was expecting a little more.
The FMC was annoying at times and very immature. I don’t mind YA stories but Lucy was a foster child who never found a permanent home and traveled for 2 years to war torn countries. I felt she should be more mature from her life experiences. The scene with Owen and his pregnant wife made me cringe like hell! Just because you drop a quote doesn’t make you Yoda.
The author said this was her first book, I will probably give the next one a try before I tap out.
