Meet your next favourite Scottish detectives: DI Colin Anderson and DS Winifred ‘Freddie’ Costello.
A serial killer is stalking Glasgow.
A woman is found dead in her own home. No sign of forced entry. But she is posed as though on the cross. Ripped open and bled to death. With a blistering of chloroform round her mouth and nose.
She’s not the first victim found like this.
Detectives Anderson and Costello are on the case. But their boss, DCI Alan McAlpine, is unravelling before their eyes.
The past holds horrific memories for McAlpine. He last worked this beat some twenty years earlier, when he was assigned to guard a woman, faceless after a sadistic acid attack. He couldn’t protect her.
The past is resurfacing.
Three women are dead.
Can they stop a serial killer who’s terrifying the gritty streets of Glasgow?
A Scottish police procedural that will keep your pulse racing from electrifying opening to heart-stopping finish. ____________________
SHORTLISTED FOR THE CWA’S NEW BLOOD DAGGER FOR BEST DEBUT OF THE YEAR
WHAT EVERYONE IS SAYING:
“Glasgow comes alive in Caro Ramsay’s dark, vivid and daring thriller.” Val McDermid
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Instantly, thoroughly enjoyable. Characters complex and very well depicted, writing workmanlike . . . excellent dialogue.” Sandra
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “I have fallen in love with Caro Ramsay’s books . . . You will feel the cold of a Scottish winter and the frustration of a small, under-resourced team trying to solve something far too big with far too little. A great read!” ElleJay
“Caro Ramsay works hard to bring the cold and constant dark and dirty Glaswegian rain to life . . . On every page the dialogue crackles, the language always remains crisp and fresh, and the details of the murder case are sharp and keenly observed.” Michael L.
“Ramsay manages to paint a vivid picture of rain-lashed Glasgow. The stark late autumn landscape is a fitting backdrop to the brutal murders.” Publisher’s Weekly
DI Colin Anderson: A well-qualified graduate with true Scottish grit. He’s calm, efficient and focused — despite his marriage falling apart, and the fact that he’s just a tiny bit in love with the boss’s wife.
DS Winifred “Freddie” Costello: Pithy, sometimes crabbit (as they say in Glasgow), Costello is incredibly capable, but not above pushing boundaries when needed. She’s a well-respected officer who always puts police work first. She’s had a crush on DCI McAlpine for many years now, but that doesn’t stop her getting the job done.
Drizzly, grey Glasgow and its seedy backstreets along with up-and-coming new estates is the setting for this gritty series. The realities of poverty and crime are laid bare — with the underfunded police department trying to keep the damn from breaking.

Description du produit
The Crucifixion Killer is cutting a bloody swathe through luckless female victims, leaving them to bleed to death with their arms outstretched. The case is a hot potato for DCI Alan McAlpine and his associates -- and not just because of the imperative of catching a savage killer. In 1984, McAlpine was just a PC on the beat, assigned to guard a woman whose face been mutilated by an acid attack. Disaster followed this assignment, and McAlpine has been living with the consequences ever since. But as he gets closer to the truth about this more modern monster (aided by his colleagues DS Anderson and DS Costello), it's clear that he needs to settle accounts with ghosts from his own past.
As this synopsis might suggest, we are most definitely in disturbing territory here -- this is the kind of crime writing that takes no prisoners, and those who want comforting Home Counties mysteries should steer well clear. While Ramsay's uncompromising novel has hints round the edges that reminds us it's a debut novel, the final effect is genuinely accomplished, and it's clear that Caro Ramsay is a name we'll be hearing from again. --Barry Forshaw --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition kindle_edition.

This book should of been an easy read for me as it is based in an area where I grew up and the geography is so well known to me. But instead I found it difficult to follow.
This, book one, probably lays down the foundations for the series. It explains reasons and happenings to the main characters that I found I needed answering for everything to be clear.
The beginning and ending are gripping and totally absorb your attention, but the middle sort of lost its way for me hence my four stars instead of five. To much padding was my thought, my concentration started wandering, I'm glad I stuck with it though as it did pick up towards the end.
There's some great characters in this series and their snippets into their private lives brings home a reality that binds it together, making it feel more real than a piece of fiction. A good read!
Well worth the money and 5 stars.
